The Superintendent of Instruction is a senior leadership role that is responsible for the strategic oversight and continuous improvement of educational programs and services within the KO First Nation schools and Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS), with a special focus on literacy, numeracy, and special education. The superintendent also leads culturally responsive programming, including language revitalization, land-based learning, and community-driven cultural education. In addition, the role oversees dual credit programs, post-secondary programs and partnerships, and supports student transitions to further education. The ideal candidate brings a deep commitment to Indigenous student success, culturally grounded education, and equitable learning outcomes across remote and digital learning environments.
Salary Range: $155,473-166,607
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic academic leadership for KiHS and KO First Nation schools, ensuring high-quality, culturally relevant instruction aligned with Ministry standards
- Lead system-wide initiatives in literacy, numeracy, special education, and Indigenous pedagogy; support school leaders through coaching and collaborative planning
- Champion Indigenous language revitalization and develop culturally grounded, land-based, and community-driven education in collaboration with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Oversee dual credit and post-secondary partnerships; support student transitions and monitor outcomes
- Use data to inform continuous improvement in student achievement and well-being; prepare reports and presentations as required
- Promote a positive, professional, and collaborative work culture across all departments
- Represent KOBE with integrity and uphold its mission, vision, values, and safety standards, including regular travel to KO communities
Qualifications:
- Ontario Supervisory Officer’s Certificate or eligibility and willingness to obtain
- Master’s degree and valid Ontario Teaching Certificate (OCT)
- Minimum 5 years of educational leadership experience, ideally within Indigenous or remote communities
- Demonstrated success as a Principal or Vice Principal
- Experience in online/distance education (preferred)
- Proven leadership in literacy, numeracy, special education, and culturally responsive teaching
- Deep knowledge of First Nations cultures, Indigenous education frameworks, and reconciliation practices
- Strong understanding of Ontario curriculum, special education policies, and Ministry standards
- Skilled communicator and collaborator with strategic thinking and data literacy

- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 25 lbs
- Valid Class G driver’s licence
- Willingness to travel to remote First Nations (including by small aircraft)
- Flexible schedule; successful Vulnerable Sector Screening check required
