Land Based Learning

KOBE’s Land-Based Learning programs connect students to their traditional knowledge, skills, and ways of life through hands-on experiences in nature. Rooted in traditional teachings, these programs incorporate activities like hunting, fishing, trapping, medicine harvesting, and survival skills and are guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Land-based education integrates standard subjects like math and science, helping students understand concepts like measurement, navigation, environmental sustainability, and biology through real-world applications. By learning on the land, students develop a deep connection to their cultural identity while gaining practical skills and academic knowledge that prepare them for the future. This approach fosters pride, resilience, and a strong connection to community, ensuring traditional knowledge and modern learning go hand in hand.
