Salary Range: $41,600 to $71,980

Responsibilities:

  • Support Mental Health/Wellness programming for KO First Nation schools and KiHS classroom sites
  • Develop and promote a Healthy and Active Living program in KO First Nation schools and KiHS classroom sites
  • Support Classroom Land Based activities as required
  • Develop and facilitate workshops in the classroom sites for parents and families to support the well being of students as requested by KIHS administration and local Education Authority
  • Develop and facilitate workshops for KO First Nation school staff and KiHS education staff to support a safe school
  • Provide referral services to students, dealing with a wide range of concerns such as mental health issues, substance abuse, past or present violence, traumas, and suicide ideation;
  • Facilitate case management services which includes case management meetings with the education staff, community service providers, and with other mental health team members, liaising with other professionals to support students
  • Assist KOBE management in developing policies for safe school sites which includes but not limited to; bullying prevention and intervention policies

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post secondary education in the field of Social Work and/or Mental Health
  • Experience working within First Nations’ Mental Health and Counselling programs
  • Knowledge of First Nation education issues and challenges and of Indigenous culture and values in a regional context
  • Good writing and documenting skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate workshops both in person and online
  • Excellent leadership, management, motivation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to speak one of the KO local dialects is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Able to provide a police criminal background check
  • Able to work effectively with others and to work independently
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to travel extensively to the First Nation communities
