On-Call Worker

Location: Thunder Bay

Salary Range $20.80 – $32.00 Hourly based on qualifications and experience

The On-Call Worker is required to perform a range of duties under the supervision of the KOBE On-Call Worker Lead, Student Support Lead, Student Services Manager and Assistant Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak one of the local dialects is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills with proficiency in developing written communications
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Must be willing to provide a vulnerable sector check
  • Ability work effectively with others and independently

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be available to support students after school hours and during emergencies
  • Transport students to appointments, activities, and school-related events
  • De-escalate tense situations and provide emotional support
  • Offer referrals and connect students with staff or Elders as needed
  • Maintain constant communication with colleagues and boarding home parents
  • Complete nightly curfew checks and monitor known “hot spots”
  • Provide daily, clear, and concise written reports; report urgent safety issues immediately
  • Support boarding home parents, including enforcing student groundings when required
  • Clean and maintain the on-call vehicle
  • Ensure the on-call phone is functional 24/7 and respond to calls or texts promptly
  • Remain available to assist outside regular hours during emergencies
