The Land Based Coordinator is required to perform a range of duties including but not
limited to planning, coordinating and participating in Land Based student activities at KiHS school sites. This position is required to travel regularly to the KiHS school sites.
Salary Range: $48,000 – $81,468
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver land-based programming across KiHS sites
- Develop and implement culturally rooted curriculum and guidelines
- Travel to First Nations communities and engage local elders
- Integrate language, local practices, and the 7 grandfather teachings
- Promote wellness and maintain safety and equipment standards
- Track participation, budgets, and report on activities
- Collaborate with staff and complete required training and meetings
- Support other duties as assigned by administration
Qualifications:
- 2 years experience working in the education field delivering land based activities
- Completed post-secondary education an asset
- Experience in utilization of traditional ecological knowledge or cultural knowledge within education related fields
- Experience developing and delivering educational programming, specifically in land-based learning activities
- Ability to speak one of the local dialects an asset
- Experience working with secondary students an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with land-based and outdoor education programming
- Works independently; self-directed, adaptable, and collaborative
- Culturally aware and sensitive to northern Ontario First Nations
- Effective in both team settings and multi-disciplinary environments
- Physically fit; able to lift 25 lbs and travel to remote communities (including by small plane)
- Valid Class G licence and willing to obtain required certifications (e.g., boating, firearms)
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required
