The IT Technician is part of a Service Desk team that is responsible for the reliability, efficiency, and security of the KO Board of Education (KOBE)’s technology systems. The role includes responsibility for network and Infrastructure management, hard and software support, Inventory and Asset management, AI Tools support, and data management systems oversight and support and privacy and security compliance. This technician will work closely with management, educators, administrators, and community partners to ensure that technology supports educational success and cultural values.
Salary Range: $71,727 – $95,618
Key Responsibilities:
Network and Infrastructure Management
- Maintain and optimize LAN/WAN systems, ensuring robust internet and server performance.
- Oversee upgrades and scalability to support AI and SIS platforms.
- Ensure uninterrupted access to digital resources across schools and departments.
Hardware and Software Support
- Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, projectors, smartboards, and mobile devices.
- Troubleshoot technical issues across Windows, macOS, and cloud-based systems.
- Manage licenses, updates, and software deployments, including learning platforms.
AI Tools Support
- Provide training and ongoing support for AI tools used by educators and students (e.g., auto-marking, chatbots, speech-to-text tools).
- Ensure ethical and culturally respectful use of AI systems in educational contexts.
- Monitor AI system usage and performance; recommend improvements or replacements as needed.
Student Information System (SIS) Administration
- Administer and maintain the SIS platform (e.g., Edsembli, PowerSchool, Maplewood, etc.).
- Coordinate system updates, backups, and user access rights.
- Provide training and support for school administrators and teachers using the SIS.
- Ensure student records are accurate, secure, and in compliance with provincial and Indigenous privacy policies.
Data Management Systems
- Support the setup and maintenance of data management tools used for reporting, analytics, and student success tracking.
- Develop protocols for data entry, integrity, and backup across systems.
- Work with school leadership to generate reports on attendance, academic performance, and engagement trends.
User Support & Training
- Operate a responsive helpdesk system for technology-related issues.
- Train staff and students on safe, effective use of digital tools and AI platforms.
- Create user guides and maintain IT documentation.
Security and Compliance
- Implement cybersecurity policies, firewalls, and encryption protocols.
- Ensure AI tools, SIS, and data systems meet compliance standards for privacy and data protection.
- Monitor for vulnerabilities or misuse of technology resources.
Inventory and Asset Management
- Maintain up-to-date records of all IT and AV equipment.
- Track procurement, lifecycle, and disposal of hardware/software assets.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of technical experience in a K–12 or educational setting, including SIS or database administration.
Technical Skills
- Experience supporting various software, hardware, networks and operating systems to efficiently diagnose and repair IT related issues.
- Hands-on experience with IT troubleshoorting, network cabling, and hardware repairs.
- Experience working in an IT Service Desk environment.
- Knowledge of SIS platforms and educational data systems.
- Competency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Windows Server, and remote learning platforms.
- Familiarity with IT security tools and data governance practices.

- Knowledge of First Nation education systems, issues, and Indigenous cultural values in a regional context.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to speak a KO community dialect is considered an asset.
- Valid Class G driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
- Ability to provide a recent Vulnerable Sector Check and driver’s abstract.

Additional Conditions
- Work is performed in both office and school settings, requiring travel to KO communities and KiHS sites.
- May include extended outdoor activities and travel on urban and remote roads.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support student programming and emergencies.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional evening/weekend hours during upgrades or emergencies.
- Travel required within First Nation communities.
- Must handle confidential student and staff data with discretion.
