The Honouring Our Stories project was created to preserve and celebrate First Nations culture and knowledge in education. This initiative develops a curriculum reflecting the unique perspectives of KO communities, ensuring students see themselves and their heritage in their learning.
Historically, Indigenous voices have been marginalized in Western education, leading to a disconnect from cultural identity. KOBE and its partners are addressing this by designing a curriculum rooted in KO traditions, fostering both academic success and cultural pride.
A key feature of the project is community involvement—created by and for KO communities—to ensure cultural relevance. The curriculum will be available in Ojibway, Cree, Oji-Cree, and English, reinforcing Indigenous language preservation.
Honouring Our Stories is more than an educational resource; it’s a movement challenging systemic barriers and empowering Indigenous students. By honouring the past and embracing Indigenous education, we shape a future of inclusivity and cultural strength.
