Theatre 17 Vice-Chair, Ted Mitchell, presents KOBE Board Elder, Sally Bunting and students with a portion of the proceeds from Blithe Spirit.
Theatre 17, a Dryden community theatre group, has implemented a policy to provide financial gifts to Indigenous organizations whenever profits are generated from performing on traditional treaty lands. The Theatre 17 executive board felt strongly that the group should go beyond verbal land acknowledgements and take meaningful action.
As part of this commitment, a portion of the proceeds from the November production of Noël Coward’s Blithe Spirit was donated to Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education students attending Dryden High School. KOBE Director of Education, Patrick Stoddart noted that the funds will support activities for these students as they attend high school far from home.
