The six (6) Keewaytinook Okimakanak communities are signatories to Treaties 5 and 9.

Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education invited Bob Joseph, author of, 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act, to kick off Treaties Recognitions Week on Monday, November 2, 2020. Bob is an initiated member of the Hamatsa Society and has inherited a chief's seat in the Gayaxala (Thunderbird) clan, the first clan of the Gwawa'enuxw one of the 18 tribes that make up the Kwakwaka'wakw. Bob highlighted 21 aspects of our collective history, as Canadians and hosted a conversation with the group that gathered online to explore the importance of understanding our past, to address today and move forward. If you missed the session and wish to learn more about this teaching, please view this video produced by TVO, supporting Helping Canadians Make Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples' a Reality.
